What good interface copy looks like

Short sentences, common words and one idea at a time. People do not read screens; they scan them, find the next action and move on.

With the UX copy audience selected, Spare aims for grade 6 and marks any sentence over 20 words, however simple its words are.

Things to look for

Swap complex words for the ones people say out loud: “use”, not “utilise”; “to”, not “in order to”. Prefer active verbs on buttons and in error messages, so it is clear who needs to do what.
